Breaking the Credit Card Debt CycleDo you fear the arrival of the postman each day in case he happens to drop off your latest credit card statement? Are you using your credit card to help to sustain your day to day living? If so, the time has come for you to face up to the fact that you now need to break the cycle of credit card debt! With credit card companies now giving credit cards to people with minimal or no credit rating checks, and with the same credit card companies allowing you higher and higher credit card limits, it is not too difficult to see why many people get into a cycle of credit card debt. Breaking that cycle, however, is much tougher! The following are 3 ways you can go about breaking the cycle of debt: Consolidate your debt Possibly the most common method of breaking the cycle of debt advised to people who have taken on more debt than they can really handle is to consolidate their credit card debt in what is known as a consolidated loan. With a consolidated loan you agree to borrow a lump sum from a lender and you use this to repay your credit card debt. In most cases, as a loan, the rate of interest charged on your consolidated loan will be less than is being charged on your combined credit card debt. It should, therefore, be easier and less expensive for you to repay the consolidated loan than it is for you to continue repaying your credit card debt. Credit counseling If you cannot arrange to consolidate your credit card debt, a second option you have is to seek credit counseling. In short, a credit counselor is a licensed financial advisor who will take a look at your income and assets and then calculated your debt. The credit counselor will then arrange a debt repayment plan for you, which they will propose to your creditors. Hopefully your creditor counselor will have arranged for your creditors to accept a reduction in the interest they are charging you so that have more of a realistic chance of being repaid. In turn this should reduce your monthly payments. Once everything is arranged with your creditors, you will then need to make a monthly payment to your credit counselor, who will then arrange to repay your debt. Debt refinance A third way in which you could clear your credit card debt is to consider some form of debt refinance. In short, what this means is that you use some asset you have as security for a loan, which you then you to repay your credit card debt. Classic debt repayment methods include refinancing your home, if you have equity in your home, stocks and shares, or even your car (if you have no financing on the car). As a secured debt, it is extremely likely the interest and monthly repayments you'll need to make will be considerably less than what you are currently paying on your credit card debt. Having a large credit card debt can be an extremely stressful period in your life. So, if you want to start to enjoy life again, and have less daily stress, give serious consideration to breaking the credit card debt cycle in your life! |
