5 Basic Debt Money Management Tips

If you are currently in debt, then you are going to need to learn the basics of debt money management if you want to find a quick way to get out of debt. To help you, here are 5 basic debt money management tips:

1. Budget

It is vital that you determine exactly how much you have coming in each month and how much you need to pay out, if you do not know these, then you'll not be able to get control of your debt and the rest of your money management will fail! That said, many who go into debt don't want to face up to the reality of their situation - so now's the time.

When you make your budget, determining exactly how much you have in income should not be too difficult. However, knowing what your debt is can be. So remember to include:

- your mortgage or rent payment;
- your car repayment;
- an average of the last 3 months of utilities and telephone bills;
- the total of all your credit card, store card and hire-purchase payments;
- any other payments you need to make; such as, insurance payments, medicals payments, retirement savings, etc.

2. Consolidate

If you can, think about consolidating your existing small debts into one large debt. Hopefully this will give you the chance to both reduce the interest you are paying on the debt each month and the amount that you have to repay each month. By consolidating your debt in this way, you could lighten your monthly debt burden.

3. Savings

Lots of us are reluctant to spend our savings to pay off our debt. Normally we justify this by saying we are saving for a rainy day. Well, the truth is - it's pouring with rain and in most cases repaying a debt is more expensive than the interest you are earning on any savings you may have. As such, the time has come to give a long and hard thought to using your savings to pay off your debt.

4. Earn More

If you have the chance, now is the time to earn more. There are lots of ways you can increase your earnings to pay off your debt. Today there are lots of opportunities to earn extra money on the Internet, so give them a try and see how much you can make. Remember, the more you earn the faster you can repay your debt and the sooner you can be living a happy debt free life.

5. Sell Things

Almost all of us have a store room full of things we don't use anymore. This could include games we don't play anymore or books we have no intention of ever reading again. But, just because we don't use them anymore doesn't mean that someone else doesn't want them. So, have a garage sale and see how much you can get for all those old things you have cluttering up your house. You never know, not only may this help to reduce your debt faster, but it may also help you to have more space around the house!
